Known-working Hardware
- Core hardware features (video, nVIDIA graphics, audio) work out of the box
- Can change colour and brightness of LED's in Settings
- Comes with an Xbox 360 controller, and works out of the box
- A good keyboard to pair with this system with is the Logitech Illuminated Living Room Keyboard K830, which works out of the box. The keyboard receiver can be put into the USB port underneath the system
- HDMI Input does work, according to Valve, but has issues in the current stable release (This has been fixed as of alchemist_beta 148, not yet fixed in the stable release)
- Comes with Windows 8.1 and custom software to launch Steam in Big Picture mode, but SteamOS can be installed with no issue as of alchemist 145
- OEM OS recovery media can be created with Alienware Respawn (included software), and an 8GB or higher USB key
- Be sure to login to Steam at least once under the original OEM install, or you won't be able to get the included games
- XBox 360 Wired Controller
- XBox 360 Wireless Controller - You need a dongle to use a wireless controller with SteamOS. It recognizes it out of the box, just pair your controller with the dongle in the same way you do it on your XBox. SteamOS supports up to four wireless controllers in this manner.
