Overview

Some helpful guidelines for reporting bugs/suggestions/various topics.

Helpful Hints

If your hardware does not work correctly, you are experiencing bugs, or are experiencing a problem, please do create an issues ticket with detailed system information, including, but not limited to:

  • A GitHub Gist with the output of lscpi -v (See the How-To pages for enabling the Linux desktop)
  • Basic system information
    • Steam version information for Settings > System in SteamOS)
    • System hardware
    • Output of lsb_release -a
  • Steps to reproduce your issue

Reviewing log information

It is also helpful to provide, or at a minimum, review the log information for your issue. The wiki page here can offer some helpful hints on what may be going on with your system. Please review it carefully.

Where to report / suggest items

SteamOS Bugs

  • Affect the operating system directly
  • Do not include client-specific issues that are not a result of an OS update
  • Please do not submit bug reports for suggestions. Submit these to the Steam Universe group or subreddit.
  • Examples can include:
    • Startup errors
    • Recovery errors
    • Issues with use of SteamOS
    • Driver issues (my hardware does not work as expected)
    • Software update and installation issues
    • Compatibility issues

Steam for Linux issues

At times, bugs can manifest themselves in client updates, and more so in beta-client updates. These often are graphical mishaps, buttons / functions not working as expected, or odd behavior during normal use. Client issues are often confused with SteamOS specific issues.

Suggestions / Ideas/ Comments

Please try to submit these to the appropriate links above. While the readme does note "This issue tracker is meant for community support and requests for improvements", it may be easier for those to be seen in the other channels.
