2014 09 16 meeting
Attending: Dan, Joel, Lou
- How often must we meet, as a board? How can we get our bank account > $500,
- so we don't bleed fees? Next year's strategy
Do we need to publish minutes to our shareholders?
We're the provisional board (Joel, Dan, Lou)
We should probably have a confirming vote. We should DEF have an annual vote for the board.
On-line voting tools? Does it have to be a secret vote?
Are there any other docs we need to file?
!! Joel will look into questions about running the board. Dan will email him a summary list.
We don't want to carry a large balance.
Lou: Casey's group shows that Yale IT is spending $ on developers. Grow the partnership with Yale ITS, through Casey, and SOM, with Kyle.
Joel: We should hit up CC, SCF, & DS for a bit, too.
We really should get Casey at these. Esp. since most of the Yale people interested in NHv.io will be students, not IT staff.
Lou: maybe get some Charter Sponsorships. Offer placement on the site, at meetups, etc. CC, SCF, DS, but also Prometheus, CTC, Yellowbrick...
!! Lou will talk to Casey & ITS about this.
MakeHaven lets instructors hold paid workshops in their facilities. We could use this idea: a way to get senior people engaged, as instructors.
Member donations: $5!
Stickers, T-shirts: long-tail marketing, and money
T-shirts: logos, gen-art...
"Amplify the signal"
!! Dan will talk to Spencer about stickers.
- done: it was Sticker Mule. Dan ordered a sample pack.
Hold events at Casey's new place, ~75 people, or Kyle's place in SOM, ~120 people. We need to be sure Yale students show up, though, so Yale lets us stay.
General strategy:
- topic meetups
- keynote speaker meetups
- 1 social, 1 post-holiday party
!! Dan will send an invite to us, + Casey, for in 2 weeks, to rough that out.
More Uncle-Bob style celebrity meetups, starting with Paul Irish.
Watch Boston & NYC groups, and use the Burger-King strategy: "want to maximize the impact of your stay?"
Joel: this should have a logo, a tag-line. Maybe something about trains? Because you don't have to take one to NYC/Boston?
Lou: get Mike Loukides, or Ted Dziuba @dozba, for possible speakers. Joel: Tufte? Dan: Ben Fry? Rich Hickey?
Dan: we can easily charge $10 for pros, free for students or whatever, and that'll easily cover a lot of costs.
Women in Tech, & there's a similar group at Yale. Have them have a same-time-date-place meetup?
