Title | Is REST (& HTML5) good for your health? |

Abstract |
A domain as complicated as Healthcare software has obstacles to hurdle on many different fronts, ranging from interoperability between HL7 messages and/or proprietary apps, inconsistency in application behavior and user-interfaces, ability to implement logic/rules for new discoveries across vendor applications. Advances in Evidence-based medicine (EBM), specifically genetics, have increased the amount of knowledge required to provide consistent and increasingly accurate healthcare has grown past beyond human cognitive capacity. Developing modules that prompt healthcare providers for decision intervention with continuity of care are quickly becoming a necessity. Healthcare software is struggling to keep up with and integrate the findings of EBM. There is no way to share new research discoveries universally then implement them in a timely and consistent manner across vendor applications. While HL7 offers a format to exchange data through messages, many times those messages are arbitrary in design and inconsistent in implementation, which impedes interoperability between end points. Is it possible that a HTML5 based micro-format combined with a drag and drop interface could allow for domain experts (Physicians, Pharmacists, Nurses, etc.) to crowd source their collective knowledge and reduce some of the outstanding issues that are commonly reoccurring problems? |
