Welcome to the DEM Capstone wiki!
DEMDuplicate is a collaboration with Arizona State University's Geology department and Team Friendship to create a user friendly tool to help educate the importance of digital elevation models and their variety of uses. Digital elevation Models are 3-D representations of a terrain's surfaces generated by terrain elevation data otherwise known as height maps.
DEM data is a very important aspect that contributes to many aspects of life and future advancements in the way we live. The data is critical in mimicking the real world into 3D models that can then be used and interpreted by many different people and sectors that then gets used to create new projects. They are used by the Military for ground assaults and information of the enemies home, for housing development in suitable and safe terrain, and even by the Infrastructure sector when dealing with new highways, roads, and general paths for citizens. Its use in the world is very profound and has really developed from simple human surveying of the land to complicated and accurate satellite LiDAR.
