Bringing it all together in one PCB

Firstly a huge thank you to Unified Engineering for their work in creating the replacement firmware for this oven.

Some of you reading this might be interested in a breakout board I (Robert Harrison) have made which brings together the most useful hardware changes into a single PCB with all the components in one place. This reduces the time taken to make the changes and to source all the components.

It's cost me the best part of 1000 pounds to develop, mainly due to my poor electronic skills but I'm finally there save for some testing...

This Controller Upgrade Board has the following features :-

  • On board USB to UART to enable re-flashing of the firmware and real time monitoring of the re-flow process.
  • 4 x MAX31850 one wire thermocouple-to-digital converters with cold-junction compensation for K-type thermocouples.
  • A circuit to enable the temperature switching of the small fan in the top half of case so it only runs when the temperature exceeds 50C in the top part of the oven where the circuit boards are.
  • A circuit to power an internal fan to circulate the air within the oven (NOT REALLY NECESSARY UNLESS YOU HAVE VERY SENSITIVE COMPONENTS ON YOUR PCB).

If this seems like gratuitous marketing then I apologise. I made this board because I needed one and I would imagine there is very little commercial success to be had from producing these boards other than to help other hobbyists.

The board will not be ready to ship until Feb 2017 as it is still in beta testing.
