This concept involves the player having the ability to open doors and close doors within the house as a means of entering another room. This functionality is intended to increase the realistic nature of the house and allowing the user to have a more dynamic game run.
- Running the game
- Let the user interact with the door
- Interview the user
- How do you think about the functionality of the doors? Is the transition between opening and closing smooth?
- Is there any suggestions for the graphical designs for the door? (size, scaling, color, pixel designs etc)
- It's smooth already, but when pressing the "E" button the response is too fast for me.
- When doors opening, if the black space can be transparent that will be better
- It is great, pressing "E" is same as others games in the market.
- When you open door, the direction of door should be same, that would be better.
- Don't like how I have to press quickly for the door to work. Other than that doors work smoothly
- Maybe when opening the door, you don't have to close again since there is a fog of war.
- Holding the E button I can spam opening and closing the door. Single press works good.
- Setting so that the door is not diagonal and not changing positions when closing.
In this session, four people outside of the design group participated in this test. For the first question, most users agreed that there was an issue with pressing 'E' on the door, and that there were inconsistencies of opening and closing doors. Besides that issue, the users liked the overall transition between selecting the door and opening/closing the door. Some improvement suggestions which will possibly be implemented include:
- Having a transparent door when opened (removing the black area) which will improve the visibility of the game.
- Fixing the scaling the of the closed door, so that the frames between closed and open doors match
- Setting the door so that it can only be opened and not closed. Given the fog of war feature, this will allow users to see which rooms they have been in, and give an exploration aspect to the game and would also fix the issue of inconsistencies of opening and closing doors.
