The keyless parcel counter system is a storage mechanism that will provide a secure and simple way for super market to secure shopper’s parcels and minimize the theft that is brought about using the normal parcel counter in supermarkets. Presently there are a variety of storage system that have been implemented to secure the items for example the Attendant Parcel Counter, Modular-Key Parcel Locker, Self-Serviced Parcel Lockers and The Postal Locker.

The implemented Attendant Parcel Counter is an open view parcel storage system which does not use a locking mechanism and is found in supermarkets like Shoprite and Pick n’ Pay. But the gap is that this system is not providing sufficient security to the storage space due to exposure of parcels that may lead to theft of parcels.

Modular-Key Parcel Locker this storage mechanism uses an actual key to secure storage. The gap with this locking mechanism is that the key is handed to customers and in most cases is lost inside a retail, (And if this happens, another customer or any person can claim the parcels as theirs), also the fact that the key is copied in some instances, this increases the level of theft.

The Self-Serviced Parcel Lockers and The Postal Locker provide sufficient security to the parcel storage system, the gap is that they are not found in supermarket but are only found in postal offices and apartments courier, and they are mainly used various postal deliveries such as ordinary mails, registered mail, local parcels, and international ordinary parcels. Recipients can choose their nearest post office).

Therefore, our project design implementation proposes to design a keyless parcel storage system to solve the security problem in a supermarket thereby helping to reduce the level of theft around the parcel kiosk with a self-serve automated storing system.
