How-To Guides

Disabling Sleep Mode

Windows

Steps:

  1. Open Control Panel: Press the Windows key, type "Control Panel," and press Enter.
  2. Navigate to Power Options: Click on "System and Security," then "Power Options."
  3. Edit Plan Settings: Next to your active power plan, click "Edit Plan Settings."
  4. Change Sleep Settings: Set "Put the computer to sleep" to "Never" for both "On battery" (if applicable) and "Plugged in."
  5. Save Changes: Click "Save changes" to apply your settings.

macOS

Steps:

  1. Open System Preferences: Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner and select "System Preferences."
  2. Go to Energy Saver: Select "Energy Saver" (or "Battery" on macOS Catalina or later).
  3. Adjust Settings: For laptops, you'll have two tabs: "Battery" and "Power Adapter." Set "Turn display off after" to "Never" under both tabs.
  4. Disable Sleep: Ensure that "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" is checked if available.

Linux

The instructions for Linux can vary depending on the distribution and the desktop environment. Here is a general approach for GNOME, a common environment.

Steps:

  1. Open Settings: Click on the system menu at the top right corner and select "Settings."
  2. Go to Power Management: Select "Power" from the sidebar.
  3. Change Blank Screen: Set "Blank Screen" to "Never."
  4. Disable Automatic Suspend: If there's an option for "Automatic Suspend," turn it off.

For distributions with different environments or for more granular control, you might need to use terminal commands or edit system configuration files.

Wallet Setup Guide

  1. Launch Wallet Setup: Open Smapp and click the “Setup” button in the lower right-hand corner.

  2. Choose Wallet Type: Select Wallet + Node, then “Standard Wallet” as your wallet type. (Note: Hardware wallets are not supported yet. For those, consider using SMCLI tool from our GitHub.)

  3. Select Network: Choose the network you wish to join.

  4. Security Setup: Decide on your security level by choosing the type of mnemonics for your wallet. Remember, this choice is permanent and affects your wallet's security and recovery options.

  5. Create a Password: Set up a strong password for your wallet. Note that there's no way to recover a forgotten password, so make sure to remember it or keep it stored securely.

  6. Wallet Generation: After setting your password, your wallet will be generated and saved as a .json file in the Spacemesh directory. You can optionally name your wallet for easier identification.

  7. Backup Mnemonics: Securely back up your mnemonics, either by printing them out or storing them digitally in a secure location. This step is crucial for wallet recovery in case of loss or hardware failure.

  8. Finish Setup: After backing up your mnemonics and ensuring you've made a correct copy, you've completed the wallet setup process.

  9. Synchronization: Before using your wallet, Smapp needs to synchronize with the network. Your final balance, transaction history, and rewards will only be accurately shown after this synchronization is complete. This is indicated by a green "Synced" status on the Network screen.

You can start exploring Smeshing and other features in Smapp while you wait.
