This is a request to have Bitcoin Cash properly named on your site. Its been many months since PR #507 was denied being merged and was hoping that you might have a change of heart and reconsider your stance on the name.

I just (again) got a newsletter asking for donations. But what do I see, when I go to https://riseup.net/de/about-us/donate ? The Bitcoin Cash BCH community is STILL being insulted with the "bcash" bull****, 1.5 years after this pull request has been opened, unbelievable...
#568 is still not implemented, why? lack of funds? I pledge to donate 1 BCH as soon as the text on the donation page has been changed according to #518 and another 1 BCH when #568 has been implemented, so 2 BCH in total.

Hey,

We never reached a consensus about this. Because we want to remove the master branch and stop accepting pull requests there, I'm closing this issue. This discussion is on hold in our collective and we will address it at some point in the future when there is time and energies to deal with it.

I really appreciate it that you took the time to write me again @disturbio . Concerning "bcash": This is completely embarassing for riseup.net. Bitcoin Cash is a 5+ billion marketcap cryptocurrency, not some random shitcoin. You are insulting many people here and you make riseup.net look stupid to many. Since all this time I never donated anything anymore to riseup.net and neither did the BCH community I guess. So no wonder if you lack funds...

There is hundreds of cryptocurrency exchanges. Guess what, none of them call it "bcash". See: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin-cash/markets

Those people in your organization that still deny that BTC has become unusable for normal economically thinking people because of the ridiculously high fees. Those people, you should get rid of them, their mindset will lead to the demise of riseup.net

Hi,

It might be embarrassing for riseup, but it's not like we care about looking stupid for writing incorrectly a currency. I can write Gringodolars and just not care about if somebody thinks I'm dumb for that as long as the message is understood. But we do care about not insulting people and that's what makes this issue complex for us. The reason for not been able to get a consensus is because for folks is confusing, there is Bitcoin and there is Bitcoin Cash. When asking, since, we can do that, the difference is not understood by a relevant amount of the users we ask. For you that care about this issue it's clear as a crystal, for me that I'm somehow exposed to this I don't know the differences from one or another. For folks that live outside the grid and just communicate every couple of weeks it's not complicated that they have to go and read to understand the differences between the coins and even more to not just assume it's the same.

I don't even know what a shitcoin is, but I can guess is some kind of smaller coin than one of the big ones. I don't have an opinion on Bitcoin Cash but I do heavily dislike Bitcoin. Still what matters most to me is the problem that involves having two of these coins with such a similar name and no clarity of that they are different since they are too new for a bunch of folks. We don't know how to address this problem, and that's how it got stalled. I personally find it boring to discuss even, since your positions comes from a place that is not the place our focus is on. I'm really sorry we were insulting you, we just don't know how to resolve this problem and we have other priorities to discuss.

And I said were because we merged this that should be kind of the same thing... but I'm not interested in spending time discussing this further. It's too boring and need other things to do.

thanks for the merge. I get how its seemingly petty from an outsiders view but the people that were gonna donate Bitcoin because they use Bitcoin are not likely to care if you accept 20 million other cryptocurrencies. But using the wrong name for the Bitcoin Cash might give the impression you are preferable to Bitcoin and making fun of the user of Bitcoin Cash, making them discouraged to actually donate.

I want to very much thank you for your acceptance of the PR you linked.

How long until this might hit the public site?

It takes some hours since it's manually done, but I just checked and it's there

I am positively surprised, I have to say, thanks for the merge! @kenman345 I can see the change on the website.

An easy start to understand the differences between BCH and BTC would be https://www.bitcoin.com/get-started/what-is-bitcoin for example, just in case.

As I wrote here: #518 (comment) I will donate 1 BCH after this has been merged. Just now I donated 0.6 BCH:

https://explorer.bitcoin.com/bch/address/1KFXBCWVk5fageWJA8PP4LuoYJzfB283Vu

I will donate the remaining 0.4 BCH if you also change the following: After you click the "Generate" button next to "Grab a new address" it still says "To send BCash (BCH) to Riseup, use this address:"

Also on the donation website it says now "Bitcoin Cash a hard fork of Bitcoin." It should say "Bitcoin Cash is a hard fork of Bitcoin." The "is" was already missing in the "BCash" version.

Regarding your understandable concern that people are confusing BCH and BTC: The main problem that can happen is that people send BTC to a BCH address or vice versa. This problem has actually been solved since a long time with BCH adopting an new address format call "cashaddr". What this does it changes how the BCH address is displayed to the user.

So for example the BCH donation address I was given by riseup.net today "1KFXBCWVk5fageWJA8PP4LuoYJzfB283Vu" looks exactly like a BTC address, infact it is a BTC address and also a BCH address. So people can and probably will confuse it. In the new BCH "Cash Address" format the same address is shown as "bitcoincash:qryrz3h0wamau28dmusgzn6ja68ecxevy5slqc020r". You can try it for yourself here: https://tools.bitcoin.com/cash-address-converter/

If you were interested in more details about Cash Address have a look here: https://www.bitcoinabc.org/cashaddr/

Also as I said here: #518 (comment) I will donate another 1 BCH if you implement #568, which would eliminate the confusion between BTC and BCH donations.

Also on a side note. On your donation site you state: "If you send Bitcoin to a Bitcoin Cash address, the money will be lost forever."
Technically that is wrong. Technically it is possible to recover Bitcoin that were sent to a Bitcoin address.

I'm not saying you should change the wording on the site, I just wanted you to know in case someone made this mistake. But maybe you already knew.
