A list of useful resources for nuclear physics.

Contents

Software

List of useful software packages used in nuclear physics.

DAQ packages

  • Dolosse/GitHub - A modern DAQ packaged based on Apache Kafka. Currently under development (primarily) at iThemba LABS.
  • OCLDAQ - DAQ software used at OCL.
  • MultiInstanceDataAcquisitionSystem/MIDAS - Acquisition system used in many different labs.
  • MIDAS - Acquisition system developed at PSI and TRIUMF.
  • NSCLDAQ - Acquisition system developed and used at NSCL.
  • Marabou - Acquisition system developed at the University of Munich and used for the readout of Miniball at ISOLDE.

Sorting codes

  • MiniballCoulexSort - Sort code for Miniball experiments in the standard Coulex configuration (with or without SPEDE).
  • usersort - Software for sorting raw data from the analog DAQ system at OCL.

Analysis

  • OMpy - A python package for performing the Oslo Method analysis.
  • Oslo Method Software - A set of programs to performing the Oslo Method analysis (old).
  • ROOT - De-facto standard tool for analyzing data in particle and nuclear physics.
  • Vaex - Out-of-core DataFrames for python. A very powerful package for analyzing gigantic amounts of data. Just as or faster than ROOT.

Simulation

  • Geant4 - A toolkit for the simulation of the passage of particles through matter.
  • LISE++ - Calculator for transmission and yields of beams. Also includes several useful calculators such as kimematics, fusion evaporation simulations, etc.
  • Qkinz - Kinematics calculator for the SiRi array at OCL.
  • SRIM - Software for calculating stopping power of ions in matter. The webpage are straight out of the 90's.
  • TALYS - Fortran package for running Hauser-Feshbach calculations.

Statistical analysis

  • pyMC3 - Package for statistical programming in python. Very simple package for developing Bayesian models.

Visualization

  • Chart of nuclides drawer - Open source python program for making nuclear charts
  • lvl_builder or GitHub - lvl_builder is a python script to build an energy level scheme that is normally used in the nuclear physics.
  • Matplotlib - Matplotlib is a Python 2D plotting library which produces publication quality figures in a variety of hardcopy formats and interactive environments across platforms.
  • RadWare - RadWare is a software package for interactive graphical analysis of gamma-ray coincidence data.
  • ROOT - A large package for nuclear and particle physics.

Various tools

  • TALYS-launcher - Powerful tool for generating TALYS input files for studies of serveral nuclei.

Websites

List of useful websites for nuclear physics.

Calculators

  • NRV - Several useful tools such as reaction calculators, etc.
  • Catkin - Useful set of calculators such as kinematics, etc. implemented in excel.

Charts

  • NuDat - An interactive chart of nuclides from NNDC
  • Live Chart of Nuclides - An interactive chart of nuclides hosted by IAEA with search and filter based on various nuclear properties.

Databases

  • ENDF - Evaluated neutron reaction cross sections.
  • ENSDF - Evaluated Nuclear Structure Data File Search and Retrieval. Also indexes un-evaluated data.
  • EXFOR - Experimental Nuclear Reaction Data.
  • RIPL-3 - A standard input parameter library.
  • STAR - Stopping power tables for alpha's, protons and electrons in various materials.

DAQ documentation
