- Food options on UT campus - Numerous restaurants of various types, coffee shops, etc.
- The Texas Union - Food, events, etc. on UT campus.

- Kebabalicious - Turkish style wraps; halal menu options
- Barton Springs Picnic - A Trailerpark of Trailers. South of the river in Barton Springs Park.
- Arlo's - vegan comfort food
- My Thai Mom - small truck, at 1006 Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78701
- Madras Dhaba - Indian food truck in East Austin with veggie and non-veg fare
- Rainey Street - Food trucks, bars, mostly active on weekends. Near the river, walkable from downtown.
- The Vortex - Manor Road, east of campus. Outdoor seating, homemade pasta and Italian dishes at Patrizi’s food truck and cocktails at Butterfly Bar; live music and theatre performances.
- Garbo's - Lobster rolls (Temporarily closed as of 2022)
- Cooper's - Downtown, Large variety of meats, neat indoor seating.
- Stubb’s - Downtown. Barbecue restaurant with live music venue in back
- Lambert's - Downtown. Pricey, but delicious gourmet BBQ.
- Iron Works - Good BBQ, downtown
- Black’s Barbecue - barbecue meats, sides, desserts with indoor and outdoor seating. North Guadalupe Street, accessible from campus by bus.
- The Salt Lick - Driftwood (30 minute drive), Epic open pit BBQ in the heart of beautiful Central Texas hill country.
- The Salt Lick - Round Rock location - 30 min drive straight up 35 then take a right at RR. Come in the Spring and eat BBQ and see a RR Express Triple-A baseball game right beside Salt Lick.

- Chupacabra Cantina - Downtown, Tasty tacos and beverages.
- Chuys - driveable, Great drinks and make sure you get the creamy jalapeno salsa!

- The Hideout - downtown, Austin’s oldest independent coffee house, coffee and pastries

- Easy Tiger East Side - A bakery, coffee shop and beer garden. Calm patio for weekday breakfast; more lively beergarden for weekend brunch.
- Hoover’s Cooking - southern fare (fried chicken and catfish, po’ boys, desserts). Manor Road, east of campus
- Aster’s - Ethiopian restaurant. Northeast of campus, about 10-15 minutes by bus or 5-10 minutes by rideshare.
- Casa Colombia - Colombian fare with full bar and aguas frescas. East Austin.
- El Chile Cafe y Cantina - Mexican cuisine. Manor Road, East Austin.
- Mi Madre’s - Mexican food with rooftop mezcal bar Techo behind
- Ramen Tatsu-Ya - modern take on Ramen and Japanese dishes. East Austin.
- Eureka! - Downtown, Burgers, Beer and 45 Whiskeys. Prides itself on scratch made food. They even make their own ketchup!
- B.D. Rileys - Downtown, Irish Pub and Restaurant, Corned Beef, Beer, Whiskey
- Central Market Cafe - Local grocery store with a nice casual cafe that caters to all dietary needs. Lots of free samples in the store too.
- Gus's Fried Chicken - Downtown. Awesome fried chicken!
- Fareground Austin - several food, coffee, and cocktail options in an underground foodcourt space in the heart of downtown

- Wheatsville Co-op - grocery store with prepared food section and outdoor eating area
- Casino El Camino - Burgers. Big ones.
- Crown and Anchor - bar open late with burgers, fries, vegetarian options; walking distance from north side of UT campus

- Rainey Street - By the river, walkable from downtown. A dozen or so bars all in a row.
- Schoolhouse Pub - English and American pub fare. On Manor Road in East Austin.
- Hopfield’s - French cuisine and bar with indoor and outdoor seating
- Lucky Lab - coffee shop with outdoor seating space walking distance from west side of campus
- Houndstooth - Downtown. Excellent coffee, some of the best in town.
- Fleet - Slight trip. Previous evangelist from Cuvee, a local roaster, opens up his own shop serving Madcap, Olympia and other specialty roasters. Features a drink including fruity pebbles along with excellent espresso and filter coffees.
- Buzzmill - coffee shop on East Side with food and cocktails; stays open late; indoor and outdoor seating
- Elephant Room - Jazz, About 3 blocks from the Hilton.
- Saxon Pub - Driveable/rideshare/bus, classic Austin place; great sound; lively; many popular acts play here

- 6th Street, many bars up and down this street play live music.

- Pinballz - 3 Locations in Austin/Buda.
- Hiking: Lady Bird Lake Trail - Dirt and Cement trails, great for runners.
- Hiking: Mt. Bonnell - highest point in Austin with breathtaking views. Another post about it
- Oasis Austin - if you have a car, this is worth the drive. You won't believe you are in Texas anymore.
- Texas Hill Country Wineries - if you have a car, 3-5 hours this is a treat. The original wiki creator recommended Duchmans.
- Zilker Park - Giant walking/running/biking park, inside city limits
- Allens Boots - driveable. Go home with some cowboy boots!
Uber and Lyft are both in Austin. There are also many quality alternatives:
- Capital Metro public transportation. Use Google Maps to find Buses, use Cap Metro App to buy tickets. Buses also take exact change (bills/coins).
- AustinCab - (512) 478-2222
- MetroBike - rent a bike and return it to any of the stations. Great option for getting around downtown.
- Lime, among others - Scooter Rental for exploring near-downtown areas
- Various taxi services (Yelp ratings)
- Car2go - rent a small car. On-street parking costs you nothing!
