Adding that sponsor button looks good to me. Not sure whether the fact JupyterLite is still unofficial (not an official Jupyter sub-project) would be an issue to link to the NumFOCUS website.

That is a good point - feel free to leave this pending. As indeed adding sponsorship may give a false sense of support to the project by the Jupyter and NumFOCUS organizations.
