How to Play

Fishing Rod

Acquiring

Fishing rods can be bushcrafted if you have Ashfall installed, otherwise and vanilla fishing pole will be automatically converted into a wieldable version when you equip it. This mod adds fishing rods (and other supplies) to various merchants around Vvardenfell.

Usage

Attach a lure or some bait to your fishing rod (see the Bait section), find a body of water, and swing the fishing rod. Longer swings send the lure flying further.

If your lure lands in the water, simply wait until you see movement in the water. When the ripples reach the lure, press the attack button to hook the fish. If successful, you'll enter the fishing minigame.

Fishing Minigame

When a fish is snagged, you must reduce its fatigue to zero before yours runs out. Hold the attack button to reel in and increase tension, release the button to stop reeling and reduce tension.

Tension

The tension indicator shows how much tension is being applied to the fishing line. If it gets too low or too high (i.e the fish icon moves into the left or right red zone), the fish will escape. Tension increases as the fish swims away from you, and while you're reeling in.

Higher tension tires out the fish faster, but also causes more fatigue drain to yourself when you reel in. A good strategy is to reel in until tension is high, but don't try to maintain high tension if you need to reel constantly, or you may run out of fatigue yourself.

Fatigue

The bar below the tension indicator show the fish's fatigue. When it reaches 0 (or 10% if you have a fishing net), you'll catch the fish. Keep tension high to drain the fish's fatigue faster. Large and rare fish tend to have much higher fatigue, so you'll need to have a strategy for outlasting them. Minimise reeling in when tension is high, or chug some fortify/restore fatigue potions beforehand.

Bait

There are 3 types of bait and 2 types of lure. Each gives different benefits and can lead to catching different kinds of fish:

Type Description Where to get
Spinner Increase odds of catching small baitfish. Purchase spinners from merchants, or you can use cliff racer plumes.
Bait Increase odds of catching medium sized fish. Use crab meat or fish meat (which you can harvest from medium/large fish.
Baitfish Increase odds of catching large fish. Catch small fish with a spinner and equip them as bait.
Shiny Lure Increased effectiveness during the day. Purchase from merchants or use slaughterfish scales or pearls.
Glowing Lure Increased effectiveness at night. Use glowbugs (must have Glowbugs installed)

Usage

Equip a fishing rod, then equip the bait to attach it.

Fish

There are over 25 species of fish to catch. They come in different sizes, rarities, and around found in different locations.

Note: This list isn't comprehensive, new fish are added more frequently than the wiki is updated
