SMTP-TLS

I didn’t author this, so I can’t make any claims about it’s worth, licensing, or anything else. It’s just a gem package for some code that’s been floating around for a few years. Check google, or the following for more information:

Ruby on Rails

If you’re using Ruby on Rails >= 2.2 and Ruby v1.8.7 or greater, you don’t need this. Just set enable_starttls_auto in your ActionMailer config:

ActionMailer::Base.smtp_settings = {
  :enable_starttls_auto => true,
  :address => 'smtp.gmail.com',
  :port => 587,
  :domain => 'example.com',
  :authentication => :plain,
  :user_name => 'user',
  :password => 'secret'
}

Dependencies

  • Net::SMTP

  • OpenSSL

Usage

require 'smtp-tls'

Then get back to business as usual.
