In the snippet below if I click the blue text with the chain link, I get the opty documentation.

Is there a way to propose a change with a PR similar to, say, a change in direct_collocation, or is this much more complicated?

You can propose a change to any file in the Github repository. The documentation files are all present alongside the Python code.

What exactly do you want to edit? If you can tell me that, I can point you to the files.

Issue #297 shows a small typo in the opty documentation, just a ")" at the wrong place.
There is another issue, where the content of the info dictionary could be explained a bit better.
I am not too concerned about this ")", but I want to learn how to do it.
It took we forever to get this git stuff - but now I feel reasonably confident with normal PRs to examples-gallery or direct_collocation. Maybe a similar effect with the documentation). NO rush, whever you have time to get me started.

Documentation is basically in two places:

1. Every function, class, method has a "docstring" that is written just below the function signature in the .py files. Those are then displayed in the documentation website.
2. Any prose-style documentation that would not be a docstring are in the .rst files here: https://github.com/csu-hmc/opty/tree/master/docs
