EXDF Transformation Rules

This feature lets you change how the texts are displayed in game. Mostly catered for players learning languages.

Setup

  • Turn on Modding > Enable. For more information, refer to modding.
  • Drag a file from ExcelTransformConfig folder into XivAlexander control window.
    • Or, if it doesn't work, use Modding > EXDF Transformation Rules > Import.
    • XivAlexander will generate string tables with your specified adjustments on game restart.
  • If the language you want isn't natively supported by your client, add the other region's client's game path into Additional Game Root Directories setting. XivAlexander will let the game client of your choice use resources from another region's client too, including gold texts and voices.

Example

  • Use EnglishWithJapanese_SayQuestJapanese.json to make most of non-UI text show up in the form of English Name (日本語名) for objects and English text(newline)日本語テキスト for sentences, while retaining English for UI texts. For quests requiring you to chat in /say channel, you will be required to type the prompted text in Japanese. For example, in Pixie Beast Tribe Quest Pride-and-Seek(Lodestone, GamerEscape), you will have to type Beaver instead of ビーバー.
  • Use ChineseWithEnglish_SayQuestEnglish.json to make most of non-UI text show up in the form of 中文名字 (English Name) for objects and 中文(newline)English text for sentences, while retaining Chinese for UI texts. For quests requiring you to chat in /say channel, you will be required to type the prompted text in English. For example, in Ixali Beast Tribe Quest One Ixal's Buzzard(Lodestone, GamerEscape), you will have to type 展翅高飞 instead of High as Honor.

Notes

  • FFXIV plugin for Advanced Combat Tracker will stop combining actions done by pets(Carbuncles, Egis, and Faeries), because their names will show up in the form of Eos (フェアリー・エオス) (Firstname Lastname) instead of just Eos (Firstname Lastname).
    • You can use Advanced Combat Tracker > Option > Data Correction > Combatant Rename to fix this.
  • FFLogs may reject your battle logs, for the same reason above. Edit the log files, and remove all the extra languages, using Replace All feature in text editors. For example, replace Eos (フェアリー・エオス) to Eos, and フェアリー・セレネ (Selene) to フェアリー・セレネ.
  • If you're combining files from clients of different version, you will need to add CrossRegionMapping.json as a rule.
  • You probably will have to set up fonts too, as International client does not support a lot of Chinese characters nor any Korean character. See how to do it here.
