@NJRoadfan NJRoadfan released this 14 Oct 20:35

Final release using Netatalk 2.x. This was planned to be a 2.0 release, but with the release of Netatalk 4.0, that is reserved for a major point release. This update has been four years in the making and its time to release it already. This will be the last release using ".AppleDouble" folders to store file metadata. Otherwise it is as feature complete as A2SERVER 2.0 is going to be. The next release is expected to use Netatalk 4.0 and switch to using extended attributes and "dot" files to store resource forks. This will allow better inter-operation with Samba running on the same machine.

Once again, upgrades are not supported with this release. You can try, but they will likely not work. As always, back up your data before attempting to install this.

New Features since 1.5.6

  • Officially supports Debian 11 "Bullseye" and 12 "Bookworm". All older versions unsupported.
  • Updated to Netatalk 2.4.10 and switched to the Meson build system. Building Netatalk is now much faster.
  • Added Stephen Heumann's AFPBridge, NetDisk, and SMB FST installation to net boot share. Note that on real Apple IIgs machines, you must have an Ethernet card for these to work. The MacIP link layer in Marinetti has unresolved bugs that lead to system crashes.
  • Added ProDOS 8 AppleShare tools to net boot share.
  • Added Tashtari's TashRouter and optional TashTalk support if you have a RPi. A2SERVER now speaks LToUDP and, if you have the hardware, LocalTalk out of the box! AirTalk is now plug-n-play.
  • Fixed bugs and updated the cppo and afptype tools to support new versions of Netatalk.
  • Fixed a bug with ciopfs that was causing needless rebuilds of the CNID database.
  • Fixed bugs in creation of ATINIT file. You can now save your default printer.
