Compile It Yourself! | Config Files | Themes
The F-Chat Desktop Client is a downloadable cross-platform client, coded by Aniko, Eager, Hexxy, Kira, and Viona. The BBCode parser was provided by Telroth. The compressed files for each version (available as zip and rar) include both a code directory, to compile it for yourself, and a precompiled Windows binary (exe). Bugs for this client should be reported in the F-Chat Desktop Client Bug Reports forum, or here, under Issues.
The precompiled binary will only run on Windows or on Linux with Wine. If you need help compiling the client for your OS, please see the 'Compile it Yourself' page.
- Download the latest version of the client from the installation forum. (Or grab the zip from here!)
- Unpack the compressed zip or rar file to a folder on your computer.
- Go to that folder and double-click 'flist_messenger.exe'.
View Interface: Login | Character Select | Main Window
PM/Channel buttons are down the left side, starting with the console, which cannot be closed. The chat buffer is above the text input field, in the centre, and the user list for the active channel is shown on the right. At the top are two menus, and below them, several feature buttons.
File
This menu is at the top left of the window.
- Disconnect (WIP): This, oddly enough, does nothing, at the moment. (0.8.3)
- Quit: This exits the program. NOTE: Clicking the 'X' to close the window does not quit the program. It simply collapses it into the systray.
This menu is the second at the top left of the window.
- Help: Displays a multi-tabbed box with info on commands, colours, BBcode, and info about the client.
- About: Displays a box with copyright and coder information.
This menu pops up when you right-click a channel button.
- Settings: Displays a box with the channel description, including the option to edit it, if you are the owner or a chanop. Also includes tickbox to make the channel highlight/ping on every message.
- Close Tab: Obviously enough, this closes the channel/PM in question.
This menu pops up when you right-click a username.
- Private Message: Opens a PM with this character.
- F-List Profile: Opens a tab in your browser displaying this character's profile.
- Quick Profile: Pops up a box with character info (the profile 'Info' tab) and a second tab listing custom kinks.
- Ignore: Adds this character to your ignore list. Identical to '/ignore [name]'.
View Dialogs: Settings | Alert Staff | Friends/Ignore | Status | Make Room | Channels
- Settings: Nearly everything in settings.ini can be changed via the GUI in the popup box, here.
- Alert Staff: Brings up a box in which you can report a channel or user for breaking the rules. Please read the instructions at the bottom of the box, before using it.
- Friends/Bookmarks: The first tab in this box lists your friends and bookmarks who are currently online. The second tab lists everyone you have /ignore'd and gives you the opportunity to add or remove characters from this list.
- Status: Lets you select a status option and set a message to go with it.
- Make a Room!: Lets you create a private room by entering a name for it. All private rooms begin closed, and will not show up in the rooms list until they are opened.
- Channels: The first tab in this box lists the official channels, and the second tab lists the open private channels. Both lists are sorted by number of characters currently in the channels.
