Related to Character Creation - milestone is Open Beta
Feature Request
When people are choosing whether to invest points into Attributes or Skills they are always going to go with Attributes that also bump all underlying skills. The proposal here is to separate the Attribute Mod from adding to Skills but instead serve as the ceiling for Skill Mods. Want a +3 in Brute? You need a +3 in Strength first.
I would say we could do this where you can get your Skill up to a +2 or your corresponding Attribute Mod, whichever one is higher. This will allow people who just want to get a +2 in Investigation to get that, while now removing their ability to get a +3 in Investigation by simply bumping their Intelligence to a +1.
Current gap
We would want to reconfigure XP per level and the cost of attributes if they no longer bump Skills. I think longer term this is a good thing as it will put the costs of things closer together so a Power Vs a Skill Vs an Attribute becomes a more nuanced strategic decision rather than deciding do I want to buy something now or wait another level to amass my points.
Suggested resolution (optional)
On the next pass of Character Creation (ahead of v1.0.0b2) we can make this change in the repo and have the community test drive character creation to see how it feels to have the Attributes and Skills no longer directly tied.
Additional Context
Another popular system just makes it more expensive to upgrade your skills past your attribute cap, so that could be another option here. Want to get that Investigation to a +3? It costs 4 more XP than usual. I'm not sold on letting the players get past the cap that way since we want them to optimize across a few options, but wanted to add that context as a possibility.
