couldn't solve a 'var' problem with 'craft style guide' integration

I'm following the official video tutorial on YouTube, I've set exactly the same CSS VARS for the colour codes and for some reason, it works as expected, only on the 'stylesheet' page. even though the variables are define din the global root layer.

in my screen recording you can see that the button colour is correct when I'm on the 'style guide' page. but when I copy the same element on to another page, the colour changes. it's like this variable's value is different on any other page, other than the style guide page.

please help. I couldn't figure out where and how the variable value changes.
