fcitx5 is the default input method framework on KDE and integrates with KDE system settings and apps on KDE a lot better than IBus. As an example, IBus doesn't work with the flatpak'ed Chrome on Wayland but fcitx had no issues.

Here are the packages that are potentially interesting:

  • fcitx5
  • kcm-fcitx5: configuration integration with KDE system settings
  • fcitx5-chinese-addons: Chinese
  • fcitx5-mozc: Japanese
  • fcitx5-hangul: Korean

Do we know why these aren't included in Kinoite already by default?

I don't. Maybe it's a good upstream issue for Kinoite. I will file one anyway and link this issue. Then we could work out where that line is
