Slogger/DayOne sync help (also plugin configuration), thank you

Hi...

This is not so much an "issue" with how you've created Slogger, so much as that it seems like such a great tool that non-programming folks like me want to try using it. Unfortunately, in my case, I've got a second strike against me in that I don't really use a Mac computer.

Let me explain -- I got an iPhone recently, and I really like the DayOne app. But my main, personal computer is a Windows10 PC. Long, long ago I used to work on a Mac, and I've been around computers long enough that command line interface isn't scary in any way. I've also got permission from another family member to put a slogger script on THEIR Macintosh computer. So it seems I should have the necessary tools to accomplish this.

Struggled a bit to get the slogger bundle to compile, but now I'm at the configuration stage. And I'm stumped. I've finally realized that you're syncing to a LOCAL Dropbox account, whereas I was thinking about syncing to my cloud Dropbox account (because of course, that's what my iPhone does and, even more importantly, that's what I envisioned when I cooked up this plan of using someone else's Macintosh computer). So there's the iCloud sync -- but I'm concerned there might be problems between my own iCloud account and that of the person who actually owns the computer. How exactly does the sync know which iCloud account to use? If it's taking it from the computer login account, then I'm screwed since it's not my account.

I know there has been some brief discussions about the newest sync option to DayOne's cloud, but most of you have simply set a path to your Mac computer's local account version of the DayOne journal. IS there any way to sync the slogger script to a web URL? Or are there some options that could help specify a particular iCloud account?

Finally, if I can get past this hurdle of the syncing, I've still got my plug-in configuration to do. And while your instructions were probably quite clear to Mac users with a bit of programming background, I'm still trying to puzzle out exactly which program I'm supposed to run and the exact syntax to do so. I'm sure I can figure it out eventually by more Google help and research, but a remedial step-by-step explanation would be helpful. (Someone mentioned running slogger with various different options [-o, -t, -u] but I don't have a clear idea of what each option does and what it would look like if I ran the particular option correctly. I also read about working with each plugin separately, but once I've done that I'm not clear how they'd all get put together again....)

@KMHaining I am happy I am not the only one perplexed by this! I was just too embarrassed to post, so thanks for the SOS... I am trying to figure this out myself.. .:/

If you sync Dropbox to your Windows computer and you install Ruby for Windows, you should be able to point to the path to the DayOne journal within Dropbox on your Windows computer.

That said, I don't know anything about Ruby for Windows other than it exists.
