"The cobbler's children have no shoes" is a saying that refers to the phenomenon whereby professionals neglect their own work to attend to others. The saying is recorded in English from 1546 in John Heywood's A dialogue conteinyng the nomber in effect of all the prouerbes in the Englishe tongue.
