I'd like to try enabling the GitHub Discussions feature for the Tectonic project, as proposed in #766. I've heard good things about the Discussions experience and would like to see how it goes. So, here we go!

When I launched Tectonic I set up tectonic.newton.cx as a Discourse instance, with a goal of supporting the same sorts of discussions. I never felt like it quite took off, and I have to admit that I've been unable to bring myself to monitor and maintain that venue properly for a long time. (I can't quite put my finger on why that's the case, but it's definitely an empirical fact.) Even if this venue doesn't quite take off, I expect to sunset tectonic.newton.cx because at this point I just don't feel that I can do it justice.

I haven't personally participated in other Discussions instances so I'm not sure how good of a job I'll do of staying up-to-date with the ... discussions ..., but I do really try to stay on top of my GitHub notifications so hopefully it will go well. And regardless, I think that having the discussions next to the GitHub infrastructure will be very helpful for the people most likely to interact with the project.
