Hi - I'm Gerrit and deep down in the JS ecosystem.

Anything I work on is open source as I believe proprietary software will sooner or later die out due to its many inherent issues:

  • growth: it's impossible for closed source to outgrow the potential of open source
  • quality: I'm convinced the more people contribute to some specific code, the better it will become
  • privacy: same as quality - more eyes lead to more secure code - and less possibilities for unnoticed malicious intent

I may live in a bubble with this hope, but at least I can dream. But let's try to make it reality, one commit at a time.

Since I gotta live too, at day I'm working as frontend engineer @interhyp. Don't get me wrong, I love my profession and what I'm doing daily there too, but if I could, I'd definitely work on open source full time.

Besides open source and work, I'm moderating and/or administrating several code-related discords and help as well as mentor all ranges from beginner to expert in pretty much anything related to web development and software engineering. (Cloud) DevOps beyond basic Jenkins & GitHub Actions as well as Databases are my weak spot though.

Well, why should you fund me? You shouldn't. But at least, if you really really want to, you can now! 🎉 I'd consider it an act of gratitude, that is all. So thank you!

Roughly at this point my online engagement would pay groceries. Absolutely mind boggling!

Seeing a contribution like this would make me realize that maybe my goal working on open source full time isn't unrealistic. Obviously a single sponsor of $10 won't get me there. But it sure motivates me to keep on going and improving in what I publish.
