Can you add the option to change the numeral figures to i.e. letters or just one sybmol i.e. '*'?

You can customize the numerical figures with the following shortcode:

[mfn referencenumber="*"]This will have a * instead of a number with it.[/mfn]

Thanks for your reply! But I'd like to keep it as the default setting so I don't have to change it for every footnote.

Can you add this to the setting page?
