Will has been generously donating piccolo2d.org hosting (plus .net and .com)
for ~5 years now and wants to step back.

As I think the piccolo2d.org is a good landing page IMO we should keep it.

The current website requires a webserver serving static files. The server runs
a cronjob doing svn updates every 4h.
No php/db/etc. needed. See
https://code.google.com/p/piccolo2d/wiki/WebSiteHowTo#Deployment

Alternative: simply redirect http://piccolo2d.org/ to
https://piccolo2d.googlecode.com/svn/site/index.html

What do you guys think?

Anybody stepping forward to host it? Renewal will be due 2014-06-14.

If I remember correctly we wanted to host piccolo2d.org site content from
google code svn but either checking it all into svn was too slow and/or there
wasn't enough space available from google code for the repository to allow it.

The fact that the site is available at

https://piccolo2d.googlecode.com/svn/site/learn/index.html

is new to me (or perhaps I have forgotten); why not just implement the redirect?

there's 3 (maybe minor) downsides to the redirect

- lengthy urls in the address bar when browsing piccolo2d.org,
- directory links don't resolve to index.html but list the directory,
- no more 'staging' area ;-)

Hello,
I was using Piccolo2D in some of my private projects and currently I'm working
on a commercial software that will use Piccolo2D to show a simple graphical
scene.

I have a Linux VSP on linode.com in London, that is currently serving two web
sites.

I would be willing to pay for the piccolo2d.org domain and setup the
documentation of piccolo2d on my server.

Are you willing to update the Piccolo2D documentation on
piccolo2d.org/index.html ?
Or are you going to use code.google.com Wiki for the documentation?
Do you want to change the documentation to a Wiki (like Mediawiki) or do you
want to continue to use static HTML files?

Regards, Erwin.

Hello Erwin,

Sorry for not following up on this sooner. If you are still willing to host
the documentation, the Piccolo2D project would be happy to take you up on your
offer.

Unfortunately I don't actually know the details of how the rsync was set up, I
just committed documentation to the svn repository and it showed up on
www.piccolo2d.org. This wiki page is the best we have to go on

There just never was a rsync.

However, as mentioned on
https://code.google.com/p/piccolo2d/wiki/WebSiteHowTo#Deployment, a cron job
running on the webserver doing a svn update every 4h.

Does the description on the wiki page need clarification?

The piccolo2d.org served as a landing page with all the infrequently changing
content and pointed here (google code) for all 'dynamic' stuff - code, wiki,
issues, tarballs.

so this becomes a 'wont fix' as there's no more piccolo2d.org.

I'm afraid WontFix applies across the board at this point.

P.S.: piccolo2d.net went to a domain grabber in switzerland who wants to press
USD 900 and piccolo2d.com went to China.

As they're all gone (forever and due to lack of care, I may add) I set up an
unofficial mirror on a subdomain of mine at http://piccolo2d.mro.name. The
procedure of updating remains as it ever was.

P.P.S.: I changed some of the references to .org now pointing to .mro.name. See
r1264 and r1265 and 'Links' in the 'Administer' section.

However, please consider http://piccolo2d.mro.name a mere emergency refuge so
as we have a location to point to at all. I don't claim ownership nor do I
promise long-term hosting.

@mr0738 thank you for stepping up with a workaround.

I see very little publishing activity by the new owner of http://piccolo2d.org.

Maybe it's worth while to contact him and tell him about our grief having lost
the domain and kindly ask him to - if he ever wants to get rid of it - consider
handing it over to one of us in case.

What do you guys think? And if so, anybody who could help translate to
japanese? Or polish the english version?
