Playback being detected inconsistently

Not really sure how helpful I can be here, since I'm having trouble finding a concrete way of reproducing the problem, but the modal is behaving pretty odd for me.

Sometimes the modal stays visible even once I've closed Spotify and stopped playback, although the progress bar is frozen where the song stopped.

Other times, I can start Spotify and play something and the modal just won't appear at all.

The plugin fixes itself if I disable and re-enable it.

OS: Linux
All components are fully updated.
