Maintain WG/TAC/GB shared momentum going into October in person gb meeting #189

Let me know what support the EDU.SIG can provide to assist in this collaboration. |
We will be weaving the EDU.SIG and other foundation efforts into our upcoming RFI work |
For Crob, and others in Education SIG:
1. What has Education SIG been able to accomplish in the proposal between the time the proposal was submitted and today?
* Have you slowly worked on efforts in the proposal that could be accelerated with funding?
* Have all the ideas been on pause?
2. What has the experience been like since sending this to the TAC, to GB, and hearing nothing back?
|
Unfortunately the SIG has not made much progress toward our goals since the plan was submitted to the TAC and GB early this year. When we defined the plan we were leveraging the perceived availability of funding and many of the tasks were counting on that funding being available. As a result (with a few exceptions) we have been operating in limbo with no progress, waiting on any word from the GB regarding this funding. This is partially our own fault, I believe the group felt it couldn't act on the "free" tasks without a definitive yes or no about the funding from the GB. The absolute lack of any feedback (yes, no, or otherwise) from he GB has been extremely frustrating to say the least. To move forward I think we need to acknowledge that there is no funding forthcoming, revisit and refactor the plan so it focuses on "free" activities and possibly focusing more on supporting some of the education efforts that the LF is already working on. |
1. What has Education SIG been able to accomplish in the proposal between the time the proposal was submitted and today? From observation and reading of the Education SIG’s progress and successes thus far, there have been multiple significant accomplishments that contribute to the objectives mutually agreed upon in 2022 by a multitude of public and private organizations on the money’s use included in the budget request. This document is proof of work from the Education SIG that could be accelerated with funding to attain the objectives in column 2. Each of the Requested Amounts in column 2 are requests for the utilization of funds from the overall Budget Requested by the Education SIG to attain the objectives in column 3. Have you slowly worked on efforts in the proposal that could be accelerated with funding? From observation of the organization, the Education SIG has accomplished a significant amount that has contributed toward the attainment of success metrics in 2023 that are associated with and mutually agreed upon by a multitude of organizations (Public and Private) in 2022. Funding of the budget request would certainly reduce the time to attain the objectives mutually agreed upon by a multitude of organizations (Public and Private) in 2022. 2. What has the experience been like since sending this to the TAC, to GB, and hearing nothing back? |
@SecurityCRob, What is the lifecycle of this Technical Initiative, and can the proposal be reviewed/forwarded by the TAC to the new budget review operations process? |
EDU SIG would be a "Sandbox" SIG atm. |
@sevansdell - is there anything else further desired as part of this issue? |
No. The Ops Model work and the GB/TAC P&P process helped address this issue. |
https://github.com/ossf/tac/blob/main/process/TI-Gives%2BGets.md published 11dec2023 that should address some of this. OpsModel will continue to develop funding requesting process in 2024 |
The funding request process is available now: https://openssf.org/blog/2024/03/19/how-openssf-technical-initiatives-can-receive-strategic-funding/. If desired, open a new Issue in the TAC repo using the funding template. Thanks! |
