Communicating with mentors

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note about communication: in general, please use GitHub Discussions for communication and do not send personal emails or direct messages (IMs, etc.) to mentors, unless the issue you're writing about is sensitive in some way.

You also do not need to send introduction emails to mentors directly -- this is not a requirement, and it will not help your chances of selection.

We're requesting this for the following reasons:

• As an open source project, we prefer to conduct the introductions/discussions in public channels, so that everyone can benefit from the responses.
• We are currently overloaded with emails, and will take much longer to respond if you send things by email. However, we do make a point to check GitHub Discussions regularly.

So, please use the discussion channels that have already been set up. This allows us to respond effectively where it is most needed.
