"First name" is difficult internationally, see https://shinesolutions.com/2018/01/08/falsehoods-programmers-believe-about-names-with-examples/. If there's an issue with addressing people with their "name" (existing user property), "given name", or maybe even "preferred name" (with the hint "How should we address you in e-mails?") might be better.

The W3C guidance linked in the article gives an example:
"What should we call you? (for example, when we send you mail?)"

@teolemon to bare in mind:

Currently "Name" is publicly displayed… and we should not force people to use their real name, but pseudonyms (according to what they want).

So IMO we should introduce a firstname / lastname field and make it private (only available to administrators, eventually moderators).
