Inconsistent and confusing install guide ? #37
Comments
Hi @noyb666; I also had to give few try before succeed it; You could try to enhance the install guide than PR it ? What is your device ? did you download and put file in the right directory ? (like your stockImage, ...) |
Thanks for your effort @JOduMonT, my device is a Nexus Angler 6p. "did you download and put file in the right directory ? (like your stockImage, ...)" Meanwhile I tried innumerous different ways and different stock images and kernels and root applications... I manage to flash the kalifs or the Kali APK, but the problem is the kernel... I tried: Official release NetHunter image for my supported device The problem is, that this "Documentation" is such a mess, wouldn't tell you which built to use... Flashing the kalifs and kernel Kalifs, no problem, but any kernel I tried (for my specific device / os of course) would brick the device, sending me back to ground zero. Installing the APK's works, but again, doesn't find the kernel version, wifite doesn't work etc.... nethunter-LRT The first part, flashing the stock image works perfectly good, the second bricks the device reliably in innumerous different combinations... (changed SuperSu version, Kernels, stock images etc.). This Toolkit is so lousy, comes with a broken link to the SuperSu, and what to put in the /kaliNethunter folder is unclear, especially since we've read before, that you have to flash the kernel last... Besides that, I don't find the LRT script necessary, I prefer to flash each step manually, this way I can see what works and what doesn't.... So I learned a lot, wasted an incredible amount of time and still couldn't get it working... Very frustrating! "You could try to enhance the install guide than PR it ?" I wouldn't mind, but I'm not sure if anybody's interested... Didn't get much feedback so far and first I'd like to get my device working before I give advice and get a deeper understanding what the problem is. So at this point, I'd really appreciate if someone could give me a lead how to install (This "Documentation" is even inconsistent when naming the supported Android versions... just lousy and embarrassing...) |
So I followed the install guide step by step and that brought me to this
site (offensive-security/nethunter-LRT) and I continued to follow all the steps.
Everything looked totally fine, the terminal output ends with:
"Rebooting into Kali Linux Nethunter
Everything is installed. Phone should be booting up! Enjoy Nethunter
"
Great, I thought, but the phone rebooted and nothing happened. I ended up with a black screen and a white "Google" writing and sadly that's already the end of the story, no Nethunter in sight!?
Any clue what went wrong and what the state of the phone is?
And then I also remembered that on the previous site that brought me here
(offensive-security/kali-nethunter) there in the second step
(2.0 Downloading NetHunter) it says:
"For a fresh install, you will need a nethunter-generic-[arch]-kalifs-.zip as well as a kernel-nethunter-[device]-[os]-.zip. The kernel should be flashed last. The update-nethunter-generic-[arch]-*.zip files are for updating your installation or if you wish to download the Kali rootfs inside the NetHunter app instead."
Ok, I downloaded all of it in that step, but now I realize that I never used them in the following steps, simply because they were not mentioned anymore....!?
Why have I downloaded the "kalifs".zip at all? When there's no step explanation what to do with it. So have I terribly missed something? Or can we call this install guide inconsistent and confusing?
And once again, why do I have the output saying everything is fine but nothing happens?
