The goal of this project is to improve OSM map data in Hungary by using available aerial imagery and street level imagery and other available approved resources.
The project's focus will be adding new and fixing existing map features in alignment with community policies.
All the features our team edits will have a source listed in our changeset comments. Additionally, when making any edits, we will be adhering to the Organized editing guidelines.
The team will be adding changeset comments that follow OSM changeset guidelines with the added comment of #MSFTOpenMaps in the comments to help identify edits made to the map by our team.
Road network improvements
We will focus on improving geometry and adding missing roads using aerial and available street level imagery.
If possible, we will process and enrich road names based on available approved open resources.
While adding/fixing roads geometry, we will add missing surface tag.
Within the project's scope, we will follow up on any necessary fixes of road classification and tracking of route road network according to OSM and community guidelines.
Traffic-related improvements
Part of the project entails working on speed limits, turn restrictions and directionality related data (oneway etc.).
Within this process we will also work on enriching data with destination signs.
Natural features
The scope of work will include realigning or adding missing natural features, such as various waterbodies (lakes, rivers and streams, riverbanks etc.), forests, and diverse natural features using available aerial and topographic imagery.
Administrative boundaries, place, and land-use improvements
Within the scope of this project, we will check for broken administrative relations or any place related mapping issues and try to fix these issues. This will be done respective to community and OSM guidelines.
Building and POI (point of interest) improvements
These improvements will include realigning geometries of existing buildings, fixing road-building overlapping and enriching POI based on approved open resources, including adding names, fixing areas near POIs, checking specific related POI tagging etc.
Fixing logical issues
The scope of the project includes fixing logical issues pointed in Keep Right tool and Osmose tool.
Edits based on User Feedback
If there is no available source for making a valid edit, our team will be posting map notes based on feedback provided from our users on map features in OpenStreetMap. This can be related to roads, natural features, buildings, or points of interest. Also, we will try to close map notes already posted on OSM while we are working in this region.
Additional info
Project description is posted two weeks before the start of our editing project. Within this period, active local community channels will be notified as well. We look forward to working with the community on these efforts and to help build a better map for everyone.
