I dont see this working in centos 6.

works for me, centos6.8

By default systemd is not available in centos 6 version. The below kernel details of the deployed machine.

name -a 
Linux development 2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Feb 22 00:31:26 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
[root@development ~]# which systemd
/usr/bin/which: no systemd in (/usr/local/nvm/v0.10.35/bin:/usr/sbin/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/root/bin)
