Virtualization and Docker

In this lesson you will learn about virtualization, and specifically the Docker technology. Note that you may have already completed some of these tasks during the Orientation Week.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

• Understand the concept of virtualization
• Install Docker
• Install and run the course Docker container

Readings

• Read the Wikipedia article on Virtualization.

• Follow the Get Started with Docker documentation for your particular computer type:

  • Mac OSX
  • Windows
  • Linux

  You can stop once you have completed Find and run the whalesay image.

• Explore the course notes on _Working with Docker) for your particular computer type:

  • Mac OS X
  • Windows
  • Linux: Everything in the Mac OS X documentation should work in Linux.
