It would probably be a good idea for us to be able to commit the autogenerated resource additions to the actual datastore files for the species resources, but there seem to be at least a couple of issues with doing so:
current code will add duplicate resources if run again against a file that already has them
the structure of the produced file is not actually compatible with the source file (I think this is probably because multiple species are being collated into a single species_resources.yml, which makes sense for the jekyll context but isn't ideal for being able to add them back to the source files)
the latter issue may need some careful thought, definitely wasn't on my mind when we initially developed this.
