I cannot install 3.2.4 - I get "Joplin cannot be closed. Please close it manually and click Retry to continue." But I did close it manually before installing 3.2.4. I looked through the Task Manager (I'm on Windows 10) and do not see any Joplin processes. I also tried rebooting and running the 3.2.4 install first thing before starting anything else, same result. Any suggestions?

I think it may be due to this issue? electron-userland/electron-builder#8131

Which has a fix here:

electron-userland/electron-builder#8133

But for now only available on an alpha version. Maybe we can try to use yarn patch to fix this?

Note: it looks like it was working fine in the previous pre-releases?

Yes, I’ve never had a problem installing the new versions until this one. (I install each new one when the notification comes.) I closed Joplin, checked Task Manager to see if anything was running, rebooted, and got the same message every time. I don’t want to uninstall the existing version that works fine.

Could it actually be related? This is from one year ago while it seems recent versions < 3.2.4 were working fine

No, I was wrong about the commit date. Thank you for noticing that!

The fix seems to be in electron-builder >= v25. We're currently on electron-builder v24.13.3. electron-builder v25.1.8 seems to be stable, so upgrading might help.

I'm re-opening this — a user is reporting that 3.2.5 still can't be installed on Windows: https://discourse.joplinapp.org/t/desktop-pre-release-v3-2-is-now-available-updated-18-12-2024/41898/34

confirm, neither 3.2.4 or 3.2.5 installs on windows 11. "Joplin cannot be closed" but have closed Joplin manually before trying to install.

Still having this problem on 3.2.6, windows 11.

Is there a manual way to workaround this issue?
It's impossible to install updates.
Happens with 3.2.6

Hello, manually uninstalling and installing again seems to work for some users

Thank you,

Just want to make sure I will not lose any of my settings if I uninstall / reinstall?

…th the

installation process if uninstall fails

Continuing with the installation without uninstalling should be
equivalent to the registry key removal workaround described on the
forum. However, it's possible that skipping the uninstall step will
cause issues. As a result, this change still runs the uninstaller
(and makes continuing anyway an option).
