This is a discussion about potentially adding to knative.dev an illustration of how Functions fits, conceptually, into the Knative story.
The current diagram, "Knative Components" illustrates quite well the anatomy of a running service. Modifying this image may not be the right place, because Functions has no in-cluster artifact. Rather, Functions is a toolkit which enables the creation of these artifacts from declarative, source-controlled state (source code plus metadata).
Perhaps one way to explain this visually is to add a very simple diagram which illustrates common deployment flows from source code to a running service:
