Modify PvZ with this texturepack

Is there any way i can modify the original game? i bought it through steam. I have tried patching it and replacing the folders but every time I open it, it gives me an error like x file is missing.

You can extract .pak file using an extractor,
The files should be same where you bough original pvz anywhere.
could you make a screenshot so i can see the files before the modding section?
