I am sorry for the very basic question, i am not a python user, hope you don't mind giving me some advice, I am working on a Debian machine mounted in a Oracle VM Virtualbox.
I copyed the RTIAcquire files to my Home path in a new RTI folder
I moved to RTI and issued the command>
python setup.py install --prefix=/home/pi/RTI/install

and got the following output>

running install
running build

Hi, you need to set up your environment to run stuff from your install prefix. You need to set at least PATH to include /home/pi/RTI/install/bin and PYTHONPATH to include /home/pi/RTI/install/lib/python2.7/site-packages

I would try installing without giving a prefix. This will install to /usr/local and you are probably already set up to run stuff from there.
