UTX000 At a Glance

The UTX000 refers to a study conducted in 2020 that had its beginnings in the Fall of 2018. Two studies conducted in collaboration with researchers from Whole Communities, Whole Health predate the UTX000 study but helped refine the study. These two studies along with the UTX000 study are explained a bit more below.

UT1000

Conducted in the Fall of 2018, this study was the second-largest cohort conducted with participants from the PSY301 course offered at UT. New measures that would persist throughout the remaining studies were tested and debugged on the fly and in the wild since the opportunity for such a large cohort was too good to pass up.

UT2000

Similar to the UT1000, this study is the largest cohort of the three and again conducted with participants from the PSY301 course in the Spring of 2019. During this study, some measures were refined in addition to adding a few new ones after reviewing the data collected in the UT1000.

UTX000

This study is smaller in number than its predecessors but collected a greater quantity and quality of data since the previous two studies help further refine measures like the BEVO Beacon. The UTX000 study is broken into two cohorts:

  • Cohort 1: A small, trial-like study conducted over three weeks during the beginning of the Spring 2020 semester. This study was conducted with UT students living on or near campus.
  • Cohort 2: A more substantial study conducted from the end of the Spring 2020 semester until the start of September. This study was conducted virtually, with participants scattered across Texas (and two out-of-state participants) receiving study materials in the mail.

The Future of UTX000 Studies

The student population at UT was used as somewhat of a control group where researchers were able to test some of the measures they were most interested in before these devices were deployed at a larger scale to vulnerable communities in Austin.
