Try clipping e.g. the page https://medium.freecodecamp.org/ux-best-practices-how-to-design-scannable-app-screenshots-89e370bf433e. The images inline in the post won't show up in the clipped version.

They come in if you've scrolled to them before. I think Medium is doing something tricky where it doesn't load images in a post until you scroll to them. This would be very difficult to solve, I'm suspect. :(
