When you create a new organisation you have to provide at least the full name of the organisation. An example would be:
International Livestock Research Institute
You can add short name, which can be an acronym, abbreviation, or other shortened name, that is used to identify the organisation. Following the previous example it will be:
ILRI
Organisations from non-English speaking countries often have local names. This can be added to, if applicable.
In the field Link you should provide the homepage address of the organisation.
We'd like to include the organisation logos too. For this purpose, a link pointing to the logo should be provided in the field logo URL. Usually, you can find the logo on the website of the organisation. Otherwise, the logo can be found through Google Images. Click with the right mouse button on it, and select the option "Copy image link" (this can differ depending on the browser). Then paste the value in the before mentioned field logo URL.
We have implemented validation to check that the Link and the logo URL are indeed accessible, and the latter is an image. Sometimes, however, even correct images will be refused, for example from WikiMedia, due to their access policies.
If the logo has very light colours or is even completely white, then it won't be visible. In this case you can choose a background colour. The RGB values (Red, Greeen, Blue) for white colour are 255, 255, 255 and for black colour are 0, 0, 0. You can use the slider and colour picker to find an adequate colour.
The application saves the logo and uses it for displaying wherever it is required. However, the logo URL might stop working, one of the common reasons being the organisation has changed its design. The application will check continuously if the logo URLs are valid. If any logo URL becomes invalid, it will be marked with red "no" in the list view. In this case you should investigate that entry and update the logo URL with a valid value. If you can't find a valid logo URL and don't want to keep the old logo, you can delete the logo URL and leave it empty, then update the entry. This will clear the logo.
