i Have not been able to debug why this happens. we have 0 cases since the 31 of December.
there is an open issue about this on connect-mongo jdesboeufs/connect-mongo#459.

I did also notice that we were using the wrong database since the package upgrade, fixed on #5414 with a tweak to re save sessions only once per day instead of every request, i will reopen this in case it starts happening again.
