We have info from Slack that we could use to help lazy-init user pages on the wiki

do we need permission for this from people on the slack? how to manage that?

Well, to be clear, I don't think we'd want to auto-generate all 3000 pages. But Mariano suggested that there might be something we could do to leverage some of the data we have.

I don't think we'd need to ask people before doing anything (within reason) with the stuff they share openly on Slack. The community is a public forum. DMs are private (and the Code of Conduct prohibits sharing the contents of a DM without the permission of all parties), but other posts are public. We have public, searchable archives, and we're planning to make the community increasingly public as time goes on.

Now, we need to be careful to never share any private data we have (like email addresses), but I'm pretty sure that sort of data isn't included in our Slack exports. And, of course, if someone ever asked for their data to be removed, we'd need to work hard to honour that. But beyond that, I don't think anyone has a reasonable expectation that their involvement in the community is in any way private.

Does that cover your concerns? If not, let me know!

yes, my concerns are covered.. although I do think we need a simple privacy page and probably other boring pages as well, which will not be shown on the "all pages" page (like that 404 page). And as you mentioned on your profile page: support for categories

We have this on the contributing page:

Please note that all contributions are public domain, and subject to our Code of Conduct. We have a very low tolerance for self-promotion of products or companies. When in doubt, talk to us on Slack.

LMK if you think that should be more prominent, or if we should handle privacy differently. It's important to me, so I appreciate your inquiries.
