charybdis authd is barely fit for its current purpose. The two main problems are that it ignores WEBIRC, and that its synchronous nature means it has to block for unneeded information (e.g. ident when the connection is going to register as a server). Ideally its replacement would not only solve these issues, but also allow for remote auth agents, like a more formal version of what opms do now.
