@psychocrypt As I promised I did some digging as soon as I got my hands on the multi-cpu machines back home. I can confirm through cat /proc/<pid>/numa_maps | grep huge that Linux allocates the numa nodes correctly by default without hwloc intervention. Do you think it should stay for other OSes?

IMO we can keep it for the moment and wait if it has some advantage on other systems. We still have the dependency of hwloc to create the suggestion for the config therefore I see no disadvantage to keep it.
