Whether the xwayland window is used, it depends on your compositor, and the application you are using.

Fcitx can render the input window with both wayland / xwayland at the same time.

  1. If the application being used is Xwayland, then the input window is xwayland.
  2. If the application is wayland and using text-input (and need compositor to support xwayland), and compositor can do zwp_input_method and support popup surface, then the window is wayland.
  3. If the application and gtk/qt running under wayland and fcitx im module is being used, then it's rendered by im module, which is just like a sub popup window of that applic…
