Proposed Foundation Mission Request: This Mission Request is for the moderation of Optimism Collective Community Platforms. This Mission covers the moderation of the [Optimism Discord](https://discord.com/invite/optimism) communities (including selected Localised Communities) as well as basic moderation of the [Optimism Collective Governance forum](https://gov.optimism.io/). It also includes the provision of supNERD Maintainers who will enable the Contribution Path to become more self reliant operationally.

How will this Foundation Mission Request help accomplish the above Intent?

The Optimism Collective, like any online community, requires moderation. These moderators remove scams and spammers, onboard new members, support existing members and sharing exciting news & important updates.

This mission proposal aims to further establish the supNERDs as capable and reliable moderators for the Collective. This Mission adds the Gov Forum to the supNERD responsibilities, ensuring the forum remains a high signal discussion forum for delegates and Citizens alike.

What is required to execute this Foundation Mission Request?

Applicants need to:

Selected applicants will also need to complete an additional training program run by an external mediation party.

This Mission proposal is for a fixed number of supNERDs, and new supNERD members will not be able to join the program unless an existing supNERD steps down or is removed. SupNERDs will only be removed if they fail to maintain the activity minimums outlined in the [supNERD Requirements](https://community.optimism.io/docs/contribute/contribution-path/NERD-req/).

  • Available Positions

    Total available supNERD positions: 22.

Note that a supNERD cannot have more than two roles in this Mission Proposal (i.e supNERD Maintainer and Thai moderation, or Maintainer and Gov forum moderation).

  • Rewards

Each selected supNERD can have a max of two roles within this Mission Proposal. This is done to prevent a single contributor spreading themselves too thin. Additionally this is done to ensure the maximum number of supNERDs are able to participate.

Rewards are for the entire duration of the Mission proposal.

    SupNERD Maintainers: 800 OP

SupNERDs (Discord, Gov Forum & Local): 400 OP

If a supNERD has two roles in this Mission, they will be awarded half the reward for the second role (i.e If a supNERD is selected for Discord and a local language channel, they would get 400 OP + 200 OP, or a Maintainer and Discord would get 800 OP + 200 OP).

There are three bonus that can be unlocked through outstanding performance:

    1. 1,000 OP collective bonus: “new members successfully activate on their first day” (voice or +3 messages) reaches 15% for more than 18 of the 24 weeks. Current benchmark: 5.4%. Split between participating supNERDs (excluding Maintainers).
    2. 500 OP collective bonus: “new members retain[ed] the next week” reaches 25% for more than 18 of the 24 weeks. Current benchmark 15.5%. Split between all participating supNERDs (excluding Maintainers).
    3. 100 OP per Maintainer: If either collective bonus is achieved and less than 3 supNERDs need to be removed from the Mission (for failing to meet minimums outlined in the [supNERD Requirements](https://community.optimism.io/docs/contribute/contribution-path/NERD-req/)).

Please list a [critical milestone](https://gov.optimism.io/t/token-house-grant-policies/5833).

The critical milestone should be a measure of whether an applicant has made best efforts to execute what is outlined in this proposal or not. If an applicant fails to achieve the critical milestone, their grant may be clawed back.

  • Maintainers established communication lines with the third party mediator.
  • Maintainers manage and coordinate with supNERDs for the external training with the third party mediator.
  • Maintainers successfully track and record the required data (outlined in “Foundation Measure of Progress”) on a weekly basis.

How should the Foundation measure progress towards this Mission Request?

There are two areas the Foundation will focus measurement to ensure a successful execution of this Mission Proposal:

  • SupNERD Measurements
    1. Basic Moderation
      1. Removal of scams, spam and off topic content.
        • Tracked in activity in the “report-scams” channel in Discord, as well as feedback from the govNERDs on reported messages in the Governance Forum.
      2. SupNERDs onboarding new community members into the Collective.
        • Measured in “new members successfully activate on their first day”, current benchmark: 5.4% (voice or +3 messages). Goal 15%. Also measured in “new members retain[ed] the next week”, current benchmark 15.5%. Goal 25%.
      3. Supporting existing members through answering questions, directing them to the relevant resource, sharing updates, etc.
        • Measured in the number of messages each supNERD sends in a given week. Also measured in the number of issues solved by each supNERD.
      4. For localised channels, there is the additional responsibility of making sure updates and announcements are accessible to the local community.
        • Measured in the number of messages each supNERD sends in the respective language channel.
    2. Conflict management
      1. Issuing warnings to Community members violating the [Rules of Engagement](https://gov.optimism.io/t/rules-of-engagement-2-0/5728).
        • Measured in the number of warnings issues against the number of disputed warnings.
      2. De-escalating minor conflicts within the community using skills from the [GravityDAO Introductory Course](https://gravitydao.org/course/graviton-introductory-course/).
      3. Collaborating with the third party mediation team, and where needed, referring conflicts to the mediation process.
        • Tracked in the number of conflicts referred.
  • SupNERD Maintainers Measurements
    1. Contributor Management
      1. Maintainers meet with each of the selected supNERDs in the program at least once every two weeks.
      2. Ensure new supNERDs-in-training have an assigned mentor from the pool of existing supNERDs. Note that new supNERDs are not added to this Mission proposal.
    2. Operations & Data
      1. SupNERD maintainers are expected to host and manage the weekly supNERD call. This includes setting the agenda, highlighting any important updates/announcements and or upcoming campaigns.
        • Measured in live attendance of supNERDs during weekly calls.
      2. Data for all outlined goals in “Foundation Measure of Progress” is collected and appropriately stored and displayed to supNERDs.
        • Measured in collecting both individual contributor contribution data, as well as for the Path as a whole.

How should badgeholders measure impact upon completion of this Foundation Mission?

  • Reduction of spam and scammers in the governance forum.
  • Faster responses when asking questions, reporting a scam or reporting spam messages.
  • Smoother escalation of conflicts to third party mediators.
